My Blunt with Dame Dash

What's good peoples?

Brevner here, live from Manhattan. Yesterday was by far the most inspirational day of my life to date. A good friend of mine, and also an editor for TRACE magazine in new york, brought me by Creative Control's head office / studio. For those of you who aren't up on Creative Control, its basically a media house where they produce a magazine, (America Nu) Music video's, and albums. The godfather spearheading this project is none other than Dame Dash, formerly of Rocafella records. Dame was the mastermind behind Jay-z's career for decades, and is currently the intellect behind such artists as Curren$y, Peter Hadar, and BlakRoc (Jim Jones, The Black Keys, Mos Def, Rza, Ghostface Killah,Wiz Khalifa, etc.) Luckily for me, I was fortunate enough to smoke a blunt with the giant, and have him listen to some of my new Dub-hop infused Jams. After listening to a few and bobbing his head, Dame instantly passed MY headphones over to Curren$y to have a listen. Dame said to me, "do you know who this guy is right here? I just dont pass him anything, believe that." Needless to say, that small simple gesture gave me instant consolidation. I was thinkin' to myself, "Damn, if Dame's givin' me the thumbs up, maybe I really am ready for this music shit." Curren$y liked what he had heard from me, and he gave me his digits to set up a studio session while Im still in New York. I know hes a rediculously busy dude ( something I aspire to be in the next couple years ) so if the session doesn't happen, thats ok. Just getting the thumbs up from some of the biggest names in the business is enough for this young Vancouverite. That was a confidence boost beyond words.

Little did I know, it turns out that it was Dame's birthday. In his office, 30 of his employees were sitting in a circle paying homage to the living legend, and talking about the future of creative control. The whole time I was sitting there taking rediculous amounts of notes, and thinking of ways that I can implement creative controls groundbreaking take on media into the b sharp team. Needless to say, Im sitting on some gem's right now.

Times like this, you can't help but thank the lord for recognizing those with good intentions. Altough I had no monetary gain from this experience, I gained a vast wealth of knowledge in a very short time.

Alex is on the scene.

What's up everybody!?!

Thought I would join in on the fun here at the Bsharp blog.

I want to thank all the performers that did their thing at 420. I was really impressed by the diverse talent that came out to rock the crowd. Despite the rain, it looked like everyone was enjoying themselves.

Big shout out to the Shottas for supplying that OJ. That thing was massive and it was definitely a crowd pleaser. I got footage of it being passed around to pretty much everyone at the show. I'll try to get that video up eventually...

I want to apologize to anyone I may have knocked over with my camera backpack. That thing was flagrant.

Finally, I just want to let everyone know that me and Anonymouz from Ill-Legitimate are working on a video right now. It's a bit out of this world and I'm super stoked on gettting it out there. I'll keep everyone posted!

Stay frosty mofos!

The Weed EP - Shottas, Ivan Townsend & Rex (Broken Logic) - Breathe - 4....

The Shottas: "I am the V"

B sharp's very own, "The Shottas" are releasing their debut album May 5th, entitled "I am the V." This highly energetic duo has been ripping up Vancouver night clubs, and taking the hip hop scene by storm for the last couple of years. This highly anticipated album blurs the lines between hip hop, reggae, and rock. A definite must have for any eclectic music connoisseur. They're music can be found on various hip hop blogs and websites, but the direct links to their facebook pages are featured here:

My interview with the Archivest

MY PEOPLES!!!

Brevner here, live from the big friggin' apple. Hope everythings gravy with you, and I wanna thank you for checkin' in on the b-sharp family! A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by Trevor "Archivest" Venos, a videographer from the Vancouver area who has interviewed the likes of Rza, RA the rugged man, Snoop, Three 6 mafia... and the list goes on. Usually his interviews are under 10 minutes in length, but I was fortunate enough to have a 20 minute interview! (2 parts)
If you wanna check it out, get a ticket to my train of thought, here are the links. The first video is me recapping on my last 3 years, and the second video is an exclusive look into projects that I've been workin on lately, such as the Bassnectar "wobble street" project ( for all you dub heads out there), the Hoodwinks project ( Fembot KAi and myself), and last but not least the Eclectricity project (my discographies second installment)

Enjoy!

Love for Toronto

Whats good peoples? Brevner here. I recently visited Toronto for the first time, and I have to say that it definitely is all that its cracked up to be, and there is a very apparentItalic reason why Toronto seems to get much more media attention then the cats on the canadian westcoast. Dont get me wrong, I love my province. it's molded me into the artist that I am today, and provides me with constant inspiration, and good times. On the other hand, however, as a rising hip hop artist in the Vancouver scene, it became quite obvious to me rater quickly that our city just doesnt have the info-structure ( along with other things ) to nourish a blossoming artistic sub-culture. I also believe that because of this, west coast cats feel that there is less room, or "limelight" to share amongst each other, which creates tension and negative rivalry between artists and crews. When I stepped off the plane in Toronto, however, the vibes were contagious. Artists out there seemed to re-enforce a positive and healthy working environment for themselves, and every single person that I had met with was down to collab and do work. This was a strange new way of thinking for me to be completely honest. On april 10th,2010, at the Chic lounge in yorkville, the PHS crew ( artists such as Choclair, G-vine, Oli ) threw down a dope party night. I had recieved an invite from a mutual friend, Rick Eazy Rick Skakum; a lover of hip hop and a supporter of the scene. As soon as I had stepped in the door, the vibe was electric and positive. After a few quick drinks, G-Vine ( PHS producer, singer, and general manager ) invited me back to the camps studio, without even hearing my music to come check out how they do things. In my head, I was thinking that this truly is what Van city is lacking. Aside from the media towers, and the sheer number of people, Van is lacking the general love and respect for fellow craftsmen, artists in arms fighting the same good fight. Its a shame how easily we forget that true strength lies in numbers. Two days later, G-vine invited me down to the studio once again, to do some work, grab some food, and smoke some spliffs. How could I refuse that? It was definitely inspiring to be able to pick the brain of an artists the calibre of Choclair. Hes been killin it since I was in grade school, and his music was definitely motivation for me as a youth. We had some sushi, I introduced some of the boys to wasabi and chopsticks... which was dope haha, and just shot the shit about life, brother to brother. Not only did we bang out a monster track for their new mixtape, we also NETWORKED ACROSS COUNTRY WITH EASE! thats the whole point as an indy artist, isn't it? Nothing's gonna be handed to you, so go get it. Cross promotion.
Much Love Toronto! from b-sharp to PHS
